Green Village Hope Children Centre (GVHCC) was founded by Pastor Florence Kuya, a 74 year old retired business woman who is now a pastor in Emasafu Village. Since she was born and raised in this area, she is very much aware of the history and level of poverty. Driven by compassion, she felt compelled to do whatever she could to assist the children in need in this community. From her personal resources and material donations from her own family, she started offering the orphans, teenage mothers and widows spiritual, emotional and material support.
Mama Florence is so sympathetic with the destitute and needy that she cannot spare any time without helping such vulnerable, especially, children. She has been accessible and approachable to the needy at any time anywhere, with her smiling and lovely expression. She is ever ready to listen to the voice of such people, who have no one to turn to. Having listened to the miserable stories of children, she heartily considers their problems and always tries to address them.
One day a hospitalized and HIV positive widow sent for Pastor Florence and asked her to get her two children off the street and house them. She managed to reach them and got them off the street and begun taking care of them as well as supporting their ailing mum. This became the foundation of Green Village Hope Children Centre with the two children. Since then, the number has grown to 22 children.
Mama Florence and her husband have been taking care of them as foster parents. Even though, the number orphans and widows needing assistance is high, she can only house the 22 due to lack of facilities. Often times she has a weekend feeding program for other 30 children.
Mama Florence plans is currently looking for funding partners to help her put up a proper home for these children in a recently acquired 1acre property as they are so squeezed in their current facility. Her dream is to see every orphan child’s life transformed by providing them with a clean, safe, and nurturing environment.
Deuteronomy 10:18 says,
“He ensures that orphans and widows receive justice.
He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing.”
